Natural Medicines For Candida

Treating Candida With Proven Natural Remedies

Jun 17, 2009 Kristin Collins

Instead of reaching for the Canesten or Nilstat at the first sign of itching, consider some natural alternatives.

Natural medicines have long been used to treat and prevent candida but it's a matter of knowing which natural medicines actually help and which are a waste of your time and money.

Listed below are a few examples of natural remedies or methods that can effectively treat candida.

Garlic (Allium sativum)

Garlic is very effective in the treatment of candida due to the active constituent allicin. Allicin is a natural anti-fungal and helps to control the overgrowth of candida in the intestinal tract.

If you have ever seen some keen gardeners that use garlic around their precious plants, this is why. The smell of allicin actually deters fungus from coming anywhere near the plant. Unfortunately, the effective oral use of garlic to treat candida requires the garlic to have the odour. Odourless garlic capsules have had the allicin removed and therefore the active constituent removed. When using garlic, make sure you don't pick the odourless type.

Probiotics

Probiotics contain biologically active lactobacillus varieties and replace the natural intestinal bacteria loss due to a bad diet or use of antibiotics. Many varieties can be found in the fridge at your local health shop or chemist.

According to experts in the field of bacteria, everyone should be taking one probiotic a day for better intestinal health.

Barberry (Berberis vulgaris)

Barberry is commonly used in natural medicine to correct liver function and promote the flow of bile. It is due to the liver effect that it is successful in treating candida. Candida overgrowth in the intestinal tract is normalised by the effect it has on the liver and bowel. Barberry is known as a normalising herb and therefore is very effective for chronic candida.

This herb is not recommended for use in pregnancy.

Celloids

Minerals such as Iron phosphate and Potassium chloride can help to ease inflammation from the overgrowth and helps to dispel the overgrowth. These minerals used in combination with the barberry helps to flush the candida from the body.

Zinc

Zinc is known to be deficient in the soil in some countries, therefore we are naturally deficient as our foods contain insufficient amounts of this mineral. Zinc is known to aid our immune system therefore helping fight off infection.

Candida can be a troublesome condition but doesn't have to rely on synthetic chemicals to fix.

If you regularly suffer from candida then you need to re-assess your intestinal health. Unless you are taking regular antibiotics or suffer from a particular condition, then there should be no reason why you cannot prevent candida.
